Narrative:
During slat/flap extension for approach to stx, got 'leading edge slat asymmetry' EICAS message. Per our procedures, required landing at vref +30 KTS. We elected to divert to sju for longer runways and maintenance availability. Landing sju uneventful. After maintenance clearance, redispatched and departed for stx. Same problem occurred. Returned to sju uneventfully and flight was canceled.
