Narrative:
Assigned LAXX3 departure out of lax, initially fly straight ahead until crossing smo 160 degree radial, then turn left to 220 degrees. Noise sensitive area. At 200 ft AGL, lax tower said to turn to 190 degrees and switched us to socal. A discussion ensued as to when tower wanted the 190 degree heading -- immediately, or when we crossed the smo 160 degree radial. On contacting socal, they said 'turn to 160 degrees, tighten the turn and climb to 13000 ft.' we complied.
