Narrative:
On base leg we selected flaps 8 degrees and received a flap asymmetry message at 2000 ft. We notified approach that we had a flap problem and needed to go around and would need about 10 mins to do the procedure. We completed the procedure and notified the flight attendants normal flaps. The tower called the equipment. We came back in and landed normally.
