Narrative:

While being vectored for the ILS 17R; ATC requested that we slow to 170 KTS; at which point I selected flaps 1; and shortly thereafter we received a EICAS 'le flap asymmetry' alert. We requested vectors; ran the appropriate checklist; declared an emergency; requested crash fire rescue equipment; and notified company. Once this was completed we requested vectors for the ILS 17R; we landed; and taxied to the gate without further event.
