Narrative:
Prior to departure from ege airport, I looked over (twice) the departure procedures from the airport. I thought I understood it. Upon getting the clearance, ATC advised me that the departure procedure was rather complicated to review it, so I did once more (reviewed it). Upon departure, I flew it as I understood it and made a left turn and contacted den control. He asked if I was making a left turn. When I said yes, he said I was entering aspen airspace and I was to continue my left turn back around to the north. Then he asked if this was my first time out of ege. I replied, 'once 5 yrs back.' upon reading the departure procedure for the 5TH time, I now understand this procedure. Is there any way that a graphic for this departure can be issued? Because if others have such a tough time understanding the text and not have the privilege of such a rapid climbing aircraft as I did, the mountains and metal may come together some day.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: AN ATP RATED PLT FLYING A C441 DEPARTING EGE ARPT BECOMES CONFUSED WITH THE PUBLISHED DEP PROC.
Narrative: PRIOR TO DEP FROM EGE ARPT, I LOOKED OVER (TWICE) THE DEP PROCS FROM THE ARPT. I THOUGHT I UNDERSTOOD IT. UPON GETTING THE CLRNC, ATC ADVISED ME THAT THE DEP PROC WAS RATHER COMPLICATED TO REVIEW IT, SO I DID ONCE MORE (REVIEWED IT). UPON DEP, I FLEW IT AS I UNDERSTOOD IT AND MADE A L TURN AND CONTACTED DEN CTL. HE ASKED IF I WAS MAKING A L TURN. WHEN I SAID YES, HE SAID I WAS ENTERING ASPEN AIRSPACE AND I WAS TO CONTINUE MY L TURN BACK AROUND TO THE N. THEN HE ASKED IF THIS WAS MY FIRST TIME OUT OF EGE. I REPLIED, 'ONCE 5 YRS BACK.' UPON READING THE DEP PROC FOR THE 5TH TIME, I NOW UNDERSTAND THIS PROC. IS THERE ANY WAY THAT A GRAPHIC FOR THIS DEP CAN BE ISSUED? BECAUSE IF OTHERS HAVE SUCH A TOUGH TIME UNDERSTANDING THE TEXT AND NOT HAVE THE PRIVILEGE OF SUCH A RAPID CLBING ACFT AS I DID, THE MOUNTAINS AND METAL MAY COME TOGETHER SOME DAY.
