Narrative:
Approximately 30 mins out from landing fat, flight attendant notified me of an abusive, foul-mouthed passenger. I advised flight attendant to get names of witnesses and passenger's name. As we were starting our descent, flight attendant returned and stated passenger would not give her name and was still a problem. We were issued several instructions from ATC at this time and I elected to deal with the problem on the ground. Instructed flight attendant to inform me if passenger would not take her seat and had first officer call fat operations and have police meet the aircraft to escort the passenger off. After parking the aircraft, I met with police, passenger and the flight attendant. Informed the passenger that her actions interfered with my primary duties, distracted me from flying and created a serious safety violation. She appeared indifferent. I called dispatch and explained the incident. Talked to dispatch who was no help and somewhat confrontational. Explained incident to police. Names, addresses and further information can be obtained from flight attendant and police report. As an additional note, had we been any farther out, I would have diverted the aircraft and had the passenger removed. With reference to part one, this incident was sufficient to distract myself and the first officer and a flight attendant from our primary duties. I would have sent the first officer to the cabin or gone myself had we been any farther away from landing.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: AN S80 PIC LNDG AT FAT CALLED THE POLICE AFTER HEARING THAT THE FLT ATTENDANT WAS DISTRACTED BY A FOUL MOUTHED PAX IN THE CABIN.
Narrative: APPROX 30 MINS OUT FROM LNDG FAT, FLT ATTENDANT NOTIFIED ME OF AN ABUSIVE, FOUL-MOUTHED PAX. I ADVISED FLT ATTENDANT TO GET NAMES OF WITNESSES AND PAX'S NAME. AS WE WERE STARTING OUR DSCNT, FLT ATTENDANT RETURNED AND STATED PAX WOULD NOT GIVE HER NAME AND WAS STILL A PROB. WE WERE ISSUED SEVERAL INSTRUCTIONS FROM ATC AT THIS TIME AND I ELECTED TO DEAL WITH THE PROB ON THE GND. INSTRUCTED FLT ATTENDANT TO INFORM ME IF PAX WOULD NOT TAKE HER SEAT AND HAD FO CALL FAT OPS AND HAVE POLICE MEET THE ACFT TO ESCORT THE PAX OFF. AFTER PARKING THE ACFT, I MET WITH POLICE, PAX AND THE FLT ATTENDANT. INFORMED THE PAX THAT HER ACTIONS INTERFERED WITH MY PRIMARY DUTIES, DISTRACTED ME FROM FLYING AND CREATED A SERIOUS SAFETY VIOLATION. SHE APPEARED INDIFFERENT. I CALLED DISPATCH AND EXPLAINED THE INCIDENT. TALKED TO DISPATCH WHO WAS NO HELP AND SOMEWHAT CONFRONTATIONAL. EXPLAINED INCIDENT TO POLICE. NAMES, ADDRESSES AND FURTHER INFO CAN BE OBTAINED FROM FLT ATTENDANT AND POLICE RPT. AS AN ADDITIONAL NOTE, HAD WE BEEN ANY FARTHER OUT, I WOULD HAVE DIVERTED THE ACFT AND HAD THE PAX REMOVED. WITH REF TO PART ONE, THIS INCIDENT WAS SUFFICIENT TO DISTRACT MYSELF AND THE FO AND A FLT ATTENDANT FROM OUR PRIMARY DUTIES. I WOULD HAVE SENT THE FO TO THE CABIN OR GONE MYSELF HAD WE BEEN ANY FARTHER AWAY FROM LNDG.
