Narrative:

I am a new instrument pilot and was practicing an ILS approach into page field. The approach had given me my missed approach instructions of a heading of 310 degrees. A helicopter passed right through my approach path on the ILS approach approximately 3/4 mi from my missed approach point. Approach instructed me to remain VFR on traffic and I acknowledged. I was distraction by sequence of events and made a right turn to 180 degrees instead of 310 degrees on missed. In practicing my missed over the last few months, I have always used rsw international on my practice ILS approachs. Their missed is a right turnout on missed. I guess I just instinctively turn right without thinking. Approach gave me a severe reprimand. No traffic was compromised. This has taught me a lesson I will always remember.

Title: DURING AN ILS APCH, THE PLT OF A PIPER PA28 TURNED THE WRONG WAY AND HDG WHEN MAKING A MISSED APCH PROC WHILE KEEPING A HELI IN SIGHT THAT CROSSED IN FRONT OF HIM ON THE APCH.

Narrative: I AM A NEW INST PLT AND WAS PRACTICING AN ILS APCH INTO PAGE FIELD. THE APCH HAD GIVEN ME MY MISSED APCH INSTRUCTIONS OF A HDG OF 310 DEGS. A HELI PASSED RIGHT THROUGH MY APCH PATH ON THE ILS APCH APPROX 3/4 MI FROM MY MISSED APCH POINT. APCH INSTRUCTED ME TO REMAIN VFR ON TFC AND I ACKNOWLEDGED. I WAS DISTR BY SEQUENCE OF EVENTS AND MADE A R TURN TO 180 DEGS INSTEAD OF 310 DEGS ON MISSED. IN PRACTICING MY MISSED OVER THE LAST FEW MONTHS, I HAVE ALWAYS USED RSW INTL ON MY PRACTICE ILS APCHS. THEIR MISSED IS A R TURNOUT ON MISSED. I GUESS I JUST INSTINCTIVELY TURN R WITHOUT THINKING. APCH GAVE ME A SEVERE REPRIMAND. NO TFC WAS COMPROMISED. THIS HAS TAUGHT ME A LESSON I WILL ALWAYS REMEMBER.
