Narrative:
This incident occurred while departing sbd. Copilot PF on this leg stated we received clearance and were ready to go. After takeoff I called ATC to advise we had departed. ATC stated we had not been released. Captain should always check specifics prior to takeoff. I have since changed my own procedure to insure this not happening again.

Title: ATX LEAR 36 TAKES OFF SBD WITHOUT RELEASE FROM ATC.
Narrative: THIS INCIDENT OCCURRED WHILE DEPARTING SBD. COPLT PF ON THIS LEG STATED WE RECEIVED CLRNC AND WERE READY TO GO. AFTER TKOF I CALLED ATC TO ADVISE WE HAD DEPARTED. ATC STATED WE HAD NOT BEEN RELEASED. CAPT SHOULD ALWAYS CHK SPECIFICS PRIOR TO TKOF. I HAVE SINCE CHANGED MY OWN PROC TO INSURE THIS NOT HAPPENING AGAIN.
