Narrative:
Flight was descending to 4000 ft when cleared for the visual approach to runway 21R at dtw. At 4200 ft, power was added for the leveloff when the airplane began to climb. The aircraft gained approximately 500-600 ft before the autoplt was disconnected. The autoplt was in the approach mode when this event occurred. The captain returned the aircraft to the normal approach attitude. A normal landing was made and no conflict was reported by ATC (approach).
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: AN SF340 CREW TEMPORARILY LOSES CTL OF THE ACFT ON FINAL APCH DUE TO AN AUTOPLT RESPONSE TO THE MODE SELECTED.
Narrative: FLT WAS DSNDING TO 4000 FT WHEN CLRED FOR THE VISUAL APCH TO RWY 21R AT DTW. AT 4200 FT, PWR WAS ADDED FOR THE LEVELOFF WHEN THE AIRPLANE BEGAN TO CLB. THE ACFT GAINED APPROX 500-600 FT BEFORE THE AUTOPLT WAS DISCONNECTED. THE AUTOPLT WAS IN THE APCH MODE WHEN THIS EVENT OCCURRED. THE CAPT RETURNED THE ACFT TO THE NORMAL APCH ATTITUDE. A NORMAL LNDG WAS MADE AND NO CONFLICT WAS RPTED BY ATC (APCH).
