Narrative:
Passenger was observed smoking in aft lavatory. Passenger was covering smoke detector. No alarm sounded. Passenger was warned regarding his actions in both english and spanish, but was not responding. Passenger returned to his seat and no further incident occurred. Captain was advised and lavatories checked (trash) for burning cigarettes. Customer service manager met flight.

Title: FLT ATTENDANT RPT ON PAX SMOKE IN LAVATORY ON MD80 MIA-ORD.
Narrative: PAX WAS OBSERVED SMOKING IN AFT LAVATORY. PAX WAS COVERING SMOKE DETECTOR. NO ALARM SOUNDED. PAX WAS WARNED REGARDING HIS ACTIONS IN BOTH ENGLISH AND SPANISH, BUT WAS NOT RESPONDING. PAX RETURNED TO HIS SEAT AND NO FURTHER INCIDENT OCCURRED. CAPT WAS ADVISED AND LAVATORIES CHKED (TRASH) FOR BURNING CIGARETTES. CUSTOMER SVC MGR MET FLT.
