Narrative:

Being vectored east of gky, the copilot was flying, planning a visual approach to runway 17. We reported the field in sight and canceled the IFR clearance to switch to CTAF as there were aircraft in the pattern, by listening to communication #2. We made a proper left downwind entry behind the cessna that was also making radio calls. His position was not exactly what he was radioing, as I believed he was a student pilot. On a 1/4 mi final, I noticed the runway was marked runway 16, and we were supposed to be landing runway 17. We executed a go around. We later found out it was grand prairie airport instead of gky. I took the controls and visually landed at gky. Visibility being hazy, approach control being too busy, airport identify was misinterped by being on the first officer side of aircraft. The first airport we saw was gpm. I was unaware that gpm airport even existed, thus the runway matched what was in the HSI until very short final. This could have caused a mishap in the GPS class D airspace.
