Narrative:
I was doing training for a new first officer. We were cleared from alo to msp via the kaspr 2 arrival. I departed on the 286 degree radial from alo VOR instead of the 320 degree radial. I incorrectly interpreted the navigation chart in my rush to get our flight out on time. I eventually realized my mistake at least 15 mi or more from the VOR. There were no known traffic conflicts or anything said by ATC. This mistake can only be solved by, as always. Slowing down. Easier said than done.
