Cleared to 16000 ft. Controller called out of 15500 ft and said, 'what is your altitude?' I responded, '15500 ft.' controller said, 'you were a problem' and controller said he would get back to me, but he didn't.

Narrative: CLRED TO 16000 FT. CTLR CALLED OUT OF 15500 FT AND SAID, 'WHAT IS YOUR ALT?' I RESPONDED, '15500 FT.' CTLR SAID, 'YOU WERE A PROB' AND CTLR SAID HE WOULD GET BACK TO ME, BUT HE DIDN'T.
