Narrative:
Descending out of 17000 ft, given clearance to cross epics at 10000 ft then descend to 8000 ft. Set 8000 ft in the altitude preselect. Crossed epics at 8000 ft instead of 10000 ft. It was discovered simultaneously by both pilots and ATC. ATC stated that there was no conflict.

Title: FLC OF A DEHAVILLAND DASH 8 OVERSHOT XING ALT DURING DSCNT DUE TO MISSETTING FMC TO THE NEXT STEPDOWN LOWER ALT.
Narrative: DSNDING OUT OF 17000 FT, GIVEN CLRNC TO CROSS EPICS AT 10000 FT THEN DSND TO 8000 FT. SET 8000 FT IN THE ALT PRESELECT. CROSSED EPICS AT 8000 FT INSTEAD OF 10000 FT. IT WAS DISCOVERED SIMULTANEOUSLY BY BOTH PLTS AND ATC. ATC STATED THAT THERE WAS NO CONFLICT.
