Narrative:
We were being vectored on right downwind runway 27R by mia approach. About 10 NM east, we turned base and then were cleared visual approach runway 27R at fll. At snape, 7.4 DME, I asked mia if we should switch to fll tower, reply was yes. About 5 DME I called fll tower, and all I heard was our call sign, followed by someone blocking the frequency. This continued until the captain landed. I reviewed the missed approach procedures verbally at about 3 mi. The captain said he heard landing clearance, the flight engineer and myself did not. The captain seemed predetermined to land. The flight engineer didn't seem concerned with the lack of clearance. I should have explicitly said 'go around' instead of merely stating missed approach procedures. The only contact was with fll ground. They acknowledged the problem.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: DC8-73 FLC LANDS WITHOUT CLRNC AT FLL.
Narrative: WE WERE BEING VECTORED ON R DOWNWIND RWY 27R BY MIA APCH. ABOUT 10 NM E, WE TURNED BASE AND THEN WERE CLRED VISUAL APCH RWY 27R AT FLL. AT SNAPE, 7.4 DME, I ASKED MIA IF WE SHOULD SWITCH TO FLL TWR, REPLY WAS YES. ABOUT 5 DME I CALLED FLL TWR, AND ALL I HEARD WAS OUR CALL SIGN, FOLLOWED BY SOMEONE BLOCKING THE FREQ. THIS CONTINUED UNTIL THE CAPT LANDED. I REVIEWED THE MISSED APCH PROCS VERBALLY AT ABOUT 3 MI. THE CAPT SAID HE HEARD LNDG CLRNC, THE FE AND MYSELF DID NOT. THE CAPT SEEMED PREDETERMINED TO LAND. THE FE DIDN'T SEEM CONCERNED WITH THE LACK OF CLRNC. I SHOULD HAVE EXPLICITLY SAID 'GO AROUND' INSTEAD OF MERELY STATING MISSED APCH PROCS. THE ONLY CONTACT WAS WITH FLL GND. THEY ACKNOWLEDGED THE PROB.
