Narrative:
VFR from eln to tiw I encountered what appeared to be a broken layer that closed around me while I progressed towards tiw. I lost my geographic orientation while looking for a hole to descend to VFR conditions below the cloud layer and inadvertently entered class B airspace without a clearance. IFR flight in this aircraft is not authority/authorized or else I would have filed IFR. As soon as I regained positional awareness, I realized I should descend through a hole and left the class B airspace. Luckily there are no other incidents to report.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: VFR BONANZA PLT ENTER CLASS B AIRSPACE WHILE TRYING TO AVOID CLOUDS. NO CONTACT WITH ANY CTL AGENCY.
Narrative: VFR FROM ELN TO TIW I ENCOUNTERED WHAT APPEARED TO BE A BROKEN LAYER THAT CLOSED AROUND ME WHILE I PROGRESSED TOWARDS TIW. I LOST MY GEOGRAPHIC ORIENTATION WHILE LOOKING FOR A HOLE TO DSND TO VFR CONDITIONS BELOW THE CLOUD LAYER AND INADVERTENTLY ENTERED CLASS B AIRSPACE WITHOUT A CLRNC. IFR FLT IN THIS ACFT IS NOT AUTH OR ELSE I WOULD HAVE FILED IFR. AS SOON AS I REGAINED POSITIONAL AWARENESS, I REALIZED I SHOULD DSND THROUGH A HOLE AND LEFT THE CLASS B AIRSPACE. LUCKILY THERE ARE NO OTHER INCIDENTS TO RPT.
