Narrative:
I had taken off approximately XA00 through a cloud deck with tops at 3500 ft. Climbed to 8000 ft and was in cruise and in contact with asheville approach. Then a red flag on the turn indicator and fading displays on LORAN screen. Then no electrical power at all. I turned all unnecessary equipment off. Flipped the alternator/battery switch. Took out the KX99 transceiver which I had purposely recharged. Plugged in headset adapter. Communication was intermittent but I got a vector. I followed it and found a large hole in the clouds. Remained then in VMC and proceeded straight in to my home airport (gmu). I contacted the tower. The controller said there was no problem.
