Narrative:

I question whether we may have exceeded our clearance limit. The clearance was from hef to cjr but an in-flight request led to controller instructions to call him on the missed approach out of cjr for a possible ILS practice approach back to hef. He didn't clear us and we canceled IFR, but I am concerned of a possible misinterp of the clearance and his intent which could lead to a safety problem. There were no mitigating factors and the flight proceeded uneventfully other than that specific question.
