Narrative:

Location: takeoff dfw. At 1000 ft AGL on takeoff from dfw master caution light came on followed by leading edge asymmetry light. Flap handle was still in the 5 degree position and had not yet been moved. Emergency declared with departure control. Leveled at 5000 ft. Asked for holding to burn down fuel. Aircraft did not have fuel dump. After 2 hours of holding, airspeed at flaps 30 degrees was 190 KTS, returned to dfw and landed on runway 17R.

Title: B767 DEP FROM DFW HAS FLAP ASYMMETRY INDICATION AND RETURNS TO LAND.

Narrative: LOCATION: TKOF DFW. AT 1000 FT AGL ON TKOF FROM DFW MASTER CAUTION LIGHT CAME ON FOLLOWED BY LEADING EDGE ASYMMETRY LIGHT. FLAP HANDLE WAS STILL IN THE 5 DEG POS AND HAD NOT YET BEEN MOVED. EMER DECLARED WITH DEP CTL. LEVELED AT 5000 FT. ASKED FOR HOLDING TO BURN DOWN FUEL. ACFT DID NOT HAVE FUEL DUMP. AFTER 2 HRS OF HOLDING, AIRSPD AT FLAPS 30 DEGS WAS 190 KTS, RETURNED TO DFW AND LANDED ON RWY 17R.
