Narrative:
Approaching columbus, in, from the northeast, I climbed to approximately 3400 ft to pass over the class D airspace. I called columbus anyway to let them know my position, and they approved my transition over their airspace and provided winds and altimeter setting. After clearing columbus class D airspace to the west, I began a slow descent. While descending, I checked my notepad for monroe county class D frequency (the next airport in the flight path). At that point, I saw my note, reminding me to check the status of the R-3401A and B restr area west of columbus. I realized then that I was already in the center of the restr area. It was about the same distance to get out of the airspace in any direction, so I thought it best to continue on my current course and exit the airspace as quickly as possible. When I later contacted monroe county, in, they confirmed the incursion. Contributing factors may have been my distraction while talking to columbus. Always flight planning around restr airspace would avoid problems like this one.

Title: A CESSNA 172 PLT ENTERED RESTR AIRSPACE WITHOUT A CLRNC NEAR CMH.
Narrative: APCHING COLUMBUS, IN, FROM THE NE, I CLBED TO APPROX 3400 FT TO PASS OVER THE CLASS D AIRSPACE. I CALLED COLUMBUS ANYWAY TO LET THEM KNOW MY POS, AND THEY APPROVED MY TRANSITION OVER THEIR AIRSPACE AND PROVIDED WINDS AND ALTIMETER SETTING. AFTER CLRING COLUMBUS CLASS D AIRSPACE TO THE W, I BEGAN A SLOW DSCNT. WHILE DSNDING, I CHKED MY NOTEPAD FOR MONROE COUNTY CLASS D FREQ (THE NEXT ARPT IN THE FLT PATH). AT THAT POINT, I SAW MY NOTE, REMINDING ME TO CHK THE STATUS OF THE R-3401A AND B RESTR AREA W OF COLUMBUS. I REALIZED THEN THAT I WAS ALREADY IN THE CTR OF THE RESTR AREA. CONTRIBUTING FACTORS MAY HAVE BEEN MY DISTR WHILE TALKING TO COLUMBUS. ALWAYS FLT PLANNING AROUND RESTR AIRSPACE WOULD AVOID PROBS LIKE THIS ONE.
