Narrative:
For about 7 months I had been attempting coupled approachs to lafayette, la, airport on an occasional basis. Every time we tried the ILS runway 22L, coupled, the autoplt would disconnect at about 3.2 NM (ILS DME). After repeated complaints to the tower about the unsteady GS, they advised us that the approach was not to be used for coupled approachs. Then they said there was a NOTAM out on it. We always listened to ATIS and never heard anything about a NOTAM on the ILS. A further search through the reams of paper given us prior to each flight revealed a NOTAM that said 'no coupled approachs below 815 ft AGL.' I and all who flew with me had missed this NOTAM for 7 months. Apparently it is a long term, class something(?) NOTAM. Apparently even some of the tower controllers were not aware of the NOTAM either. Lesson: NOTAM dissemination should be better and I/we should read and search them out more thoroughly.

Title: ACR B757 FLC ASKS CTLR ABOUT HAVING A PROB EXECUTING A COUPLED APCH AND IS TOLD COUPLED APCHS ARE NOT AUTH PER NOTAM.
Narrative: FOR ABOUT 7 MONTHS I HAD BEEN ATTEMPTING COUPLED APCHS TO LAFAYETTE, LA, ARPT ON AN OCCASIONAL BASIS. EVERY TIME WE TRIED THE ILS RWY 22L, COUPLED, THE AUTOPLT WOULD DISCONNECT AT ABOUT 3.2 NM (ILS DME). AFTER REPEATED COMPLAINTS TO THE TWR ABOUT THE UNSTEADY GS, THEY ADVISED US THAT THE APCH WAS NOT TO BE USED FOR COUPLED APCHS. THEN THEY SAID THERE WAS A NOTAM OUT ON IT. WE ALWAYS LISTENED TO ATIS AND NEVER HEARD ANYTHING ABOUT A NOTAM ON THE ILS. A FURTHER SEARCH THROUGH THE REAMS OF PAPER GIVEN US PRIOR TO EACH FLT REVEALED A NOTAM THAT SAID 'NO COUPLED APCHS BELOW 815 FT AGL.' I AND ALL WHO FLEW WITH ME HAD MISSED THIS NOTAM FOR 7 MONTHS. APPARENTLY IT IS A LONG TERM, CLASS SOMETHING(?) NOTAM. APPARENTLY EVEN SOME OF THE TWR CTLRS WERE NOT AWARE OF THE NOTAM EITHER. LESSON: NOTAM DISSEMINATION SHOULD BE BETTER AND I/WE SHOULD READ AND SEARCH THEM OUT MORE THOROUGHLY.
