Narrative:

Last leg of IOE at new airline. First time acting as an flight engineer. During descent, I was very busy preparing the panel and ACARS for arrival. Altitude alarm chimed. I looked at the center console and FL240 was set. Both pilot's altimeters were showing FL232. Pilots began a gradual climb up to FL240. I asked if we had violated an altitude. Both pilots stated, in a very unassured tone, 'no...' I believe we violated the FL240 altitude restr in descent. Although I was very burdened as a new flight engineer, I will add the pilot's instruments into my panel scan during climb and descent.
