Narrative:
Early departure out of ZZZ after routine overnight. Discovered 3 discrepancies on walkaround preflight. First officer entered discrepancies in maintenance logbook. Advised company maintenance of discrepancies. Mechanic arrived at airport and advised he had checked out the problems and we were good to go. Gave the maintenance log to mechanic to clear discrepancies. Advised station to board flight. Inadvertently completed all flight preparation without logbook being returned. Pushed back and started taxi. I then discovered I had left the logbook. At the same time ground control advised us to contact company station. We returned to gate, picked up maintenance log with discrepancies cleared and departed normally.
