Narrative:
Overhead dinty intersection on coast-out en route to honolulu, cabin smoke level 3 alert annunciated. Complied with immediate action and emergency checklists procedures, declared an emergency with ZLA and returned to lax. Maintenance on postflt discovered faulty smoke detector in cabin overhead. They replaced some, returned to service and then continued on to destination.

Title: AN MD11 FLC DECLARED AN EMER AND RETURNED TO LAX AFTER RECEIVING A CABIN SMOKE LEVEL 3 ALERT NEAR DINTY INTXN.
Narrative: OVERHEAD DINTY INTXN ON COAST-OUT ENRTE TO HONOLULU, CABIN SMOKE LEVEL 3 ALERT ANNUNCIATED. COMPLIED WITH IMMEDIATE ACTION AND EMER CHKLISTS PROCS, DECLARED AN EMER WITH ZLA AND RETURNED TO LAX. MAINT ON POSTFLT DISCOVERED FAULTY SMOKE DETECTOR IN CABIN OVERHEAD. THEY REPLACED SOME, RETURNED TO SVC AND THEN CONTINUED ON TO DEST.
