Narrative:

Descending from 11000 ft to 9000 ft. We were doing the checklist. Altitude alert beeped. We checked altitude and altimeter indicated 8700 ft. We immediately corrected back to 9000 ft. During recovery, minimum altitude observed was 8600 ft. No further problems and no inquiry from ATC of the deviation. We were doing the checklist later than normal and were distraction from normal duty routine.

Title: B737 FLC HAD ALT OVERSHOOT.

Narrative: DSNDING FROM 11000 FT TO 9000 FT. WE WERE DOING THE CHKLIST. ALT ALERT BEEPED. WE CHKED ALT AND ALTIMETER INDICATED 8700 FT. WE IMMEDIATELY CORRECTED BACK TO 9000 FT.
