Narrative:
A new mechanic in a hurry deferred an item under the wrong MEL number. I saw the item listed on my dispatch release with the correct number. When I checked the MEL book for any restrs I used the correct number from my dispatch release never looking at the deferred log. The crew coming out the next morning found the discrepancy. Factors which contributed to this event. New personnel who work under time pressures to get the aircraft back in service as soon as possible. Heat. The discrepancy item was the pack that cooled the cockpit. The cockpit temperature must have been close to 120 degrees F.
