Narrative:
We had an aborted takeoff due to loss of #1 engine. There were no indications of the seriousness (it felt like a thump like a tire blowing out) of the incident in my part of the aircraft (overwing/right side). The flight attendants on the left side said they felt it very hard on their side and that overhead bins opened. We had not lifted off yet, so we just aborted and returned to the gate. No injuries or problems.
