Narrative:
Diversion. Over dryer VOR, we were alerted to a fuel asymmetry. Our gauges indicated approximately a 2000 pound difference between the left and right fuel tanks. The right tank was indicating a possible leak such that we might run out of fuel if we continued. In the interest of safety, we made the decision to land at cleveland and have this checked. A bad leak was the worst case scenario and the possibility of fire was considered. We advised ATC to have equipment available if that were the case. The landing went normal and the emergency people told us that there were no leaks. We proceeded to the gate and had called maintenance for the fix. Maintenance technician was called and they advised aircraft had a history regarding the reserve fuel system indicating system. The tanks were sticked upon arrival and showed an imbal of about 800 pounds. My guess is that this was a problem with the fuel indication system.

Title: FK10 CREW LANDED SHORT WHEN A FUEL DISCREPANCY BECAME EVIDENT.
Narrative: DIVERSION. OVER DRYER VOR, WE WERE ALERTED TO A FUEL ASYMMETRY. OUR GAUGES INDICATED APPROX A 2000 LB DIFFERENCE BTWN THE L AND R FUEL TANKS. THE R TANK WAS INDICATING A POSSIBLE LEAK SUCH THAT WE MIGHT RUN OUT OF FUEL IF WE CONTINUED. IN THE INTEREST OF SAFETY, WE MADE THE DECISION TO LAND AT CLEVELAND AND HAVE THIS CHKED. A BAD LEAK WAS THE WORST CASE SCENARIO AND THE POSSIBILITY OF FIRE WAS CONSIDERED. WE ADVISED ATC TO HAVE EQUIP AVAILABLE IF THAT WERE THE CASE. THE LNDG WENT NORMAL AND THE EMER PEOPLE TOLD US THAT THERE WERE NO LEAKS. WE PROCEEDED TO THE GATE AND HAD CALLED MAINT FOR THE FIX. MAINT TECHNICIAN WAS CALLED AND THEY ADVISED ACFT HAD A HISTORY REGARDING THE RESERVE FUEL SYS INDICATING SYS. THE TANKS WERE STICKED UPON ARR AND SHOWED AN IMBAL OF ABOUT 800 LBS. MY GUESS IS THAT THIS WAS A PROB WITH THE FUEL INDICATION SYS.
