Narrative:
Arrived at aircraft from layover to work flight. FAA inspector met us and advised he was doing ramp check of aircraft and logbook. Inspector advised the logbook contained 1 open write-up. We had brought aircraft in the previous night. The write-up was from the flight prior to that time. We had been aware in stl that discrepancy was known and we were advised it had been rectified prior to departure. I was not aware of write-up being in logbook, so I neglected to check pages prior to our flight. Flight engineer and FAA inspector notified kansas city. They verified that service had been completed in stl and arranged for local mechanic to inspect strut (nose gear) and sign off logbook. Flight departed late due to maintenance.
