Narrative:
En route from iad to dfw we encountered a thunderstorm near pocket city. We were deviating north of track to avoid the storm. Center instructed us to turn to 320 degrees for traffic. We were then told to turn further right to 360 degrees. We asked if a climb would help the controller. He said yes, but stand by. We were then told to climb to FL330 and turn to 270 degrees. During the climb, we were asked if we had reached FL330 and we responded not yet and were passing FL325. We were then told to climb to FL350 and report passing FL330. We reported passing FL335 and somewhere between FL335 and FL350 we were told to fly direct to lit. There was a lot of confusion on the radio because of all the transmission and deviations. ZID indicates that we turned to lit before FL330 but that is not what we remember. There may have been some xmissions blocked during the whole evolution. The flight continued without incident to dfw.
