Narrative:

Takeoff from hou after 3 hour 49 min delay. First officer flying. His first leg fresh out of the schoolhouse. It was already our third leg of the day. SID required turn to be completed within 3 DME of airport. Low altitude leveloff. First officer flew departure perfectly, but my focus on him and fatigue caused me to fail to contact departure. Tower called us back again, so I switched to departure control. Upon contact with hou departure, they told me we were 6 mi south of iah. A real potential for a conflict. The controller indicated that there was no problem. Too much going on a long day and miscue on my part and the prioritizing process breaks down.
