Narrative:

Departed rock hill, sc, for an IFR flight to asheville, nc. Knowing that class B for clt is close, departed on a mostly west heading after departing runway 2. Planned to level off at 2500 ft if clearance not received. Just after takeoff, the oil pressure was noticed as being just within tolerances. Contacted approach while checking. While checking out the oil pressure, clt approach asked me to identify. Being preoccupied with the oil, I was startled when approach confirmed radar contact at 2500 ft, 5 mi south of gastonia. My concern is that position means I strayed within the 1800 ft class B airspace. Controller made no reference to being in the clt airspace.
