Narrative:
We were GPS direct from E18 to beatty VOR at 8500 ft MSL with phoenix ATIS altimeter setting. Had made a position report at kingman with prescott radio, was looking for traffic approaching henderson airport. Because I fly into las vegas once monthly or more, I normally contact approach, get a clearance and land at mccarran. Since I was overflying, going direct to beatty VOR, I did not check las ATIS, and my GPS receiver alert noted I was 10 NM inside the class B airspace, but thought I was ok if I went to 9000 ft MSL. After checking las ATIS I realized I was 300 ft lower than I should have been at that location, and made the necessary climb corrections. There was no other traffic, or conflict, but I felt I should report my error, so other pilots, could benefit by error in not checking ATIS while overflying a TCA.
