Narrative:
On taxi for departure, I requested procedural instructions from ground control due to unfamiliarity with airport. Ground control helpful in directing aircraft from ramp to end of runway. I was instructed to pull to right of taxiway for aircraft run-up check. Upon calling ground control to report ready for takeoff, ground control instructed 'taxi to the runway, you are #1. Contact tower on...' (distance from run-up point to runway was approximately 100 ft.) these instructions were misunderstood to mean to taxi onto the runway. Upon contacting the tower, the tower controller informed me I had entered the runway without permission and cleared me for takeoff. I apologized for the misunderstanding, explained I was unfamiliar with the local procedures and departed. To my knowledge, fortunately, there was no aircraft on final approach. I believe this occurrence could have been avoided by clrer instructions from ground control such as 'taxi to the hold line and contact tower on...'

Title: RWY INCURSION WHEN LOW TIME A BE35 PVT PLT TAXIES ONTO THE RWY WHEN CLRED TO 'TAXI TO THE RWY' AT TUL, OK.
Narrative: ON TAXI FOR DEP, I REQUESTED PROCEDURAL INSTRUCTIONS FROM GND CTL DUE TO UNFAMILIARITY WITH ARPT. GND CTL HELPFUL IN DIRECTING ACFT FROM RAMP TO END OF RWY. I WAS INSTRUCTED TO PULL TO R OF TXWY FOR ACFT RUN-UP CHK. UPON CALLING GND CTL TO RPT READY FOR TKOF, GND CTL INSTRUCTED 'TAXI TO THE RWY, YOU ARE #1. CONTACT TWR ON...' (DISTANCE FROM RUN-UP POINT TO RWY WAS APPROX 100 FT.) THESE INSTRUCTIONS WERE MISUNDERSTOOD TO MEAN TO TAXI ONTO THE RWY. UPON CONTACTING THE TWR, THE TWR CTLR INFORMED ME I HAD ENTERED THE RWY WITHOUT PERMISSION AND CLRED ME FOR TKOF. I APOLOGIZED FOR THE MISUNDERSTANDING, EXPLAINED I WAS UNFAMILIAR WITH THE LCL PROCS AND DEPARTED. TO MY KNOWLEDGE, FORTUNATELY, THERE WAS NO ACFT ON FINAL APCH. I BELIEVE THIS OCCURRENCE COULD HAVE BEEN AVOIDED BY CLRER INSTRUCTIONS FROM GND CTL SUCH AS 'TAXI TO THE HOLD LINE AND CONTACT TWR ON...'
