Narrative:
While descending for approach to iah, center gave us a crossing restr of 11000 ft at 250 KTS southeast of navasota (tnv). I am quite sure he modified this to 10000 ft. I read back the new altitude, which I believe he confirmed, but when I checked in with approach, the controller was surprised to find out I was at 10000 ft instead of 11000 ft. Now, 10000 ft is the normal altitude that we are handed over to approach control and I think that center may have made a mistake and gave us that out of habit. That day, things were irregular because of WX. We were being vectored and our normal arrival was not in use.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: AN ACR PIC IS LEFT WITH THE IMPRESSION THAT THEIR FLT WAS CLRED TO 10000 FT VERSUS 11000 FT BY ZHU CTLR NEAR IAH, TX.
Narrative: WHILE DSNDING FOR APCH TO IAH, CTR GAVE US A XING RESTR OF 11000 FT AT 250 KTS SE OF NAVASOTA (TNV). I AM QUITE SURE HE MODIFIED THIS TO 10000 FT. I READ BACK THE NEW ALT, WHICH I BELIEVE HE CONFIRMED, BUT WHEN I CHKED IN WITH APCH, THE CTLR WAS SURPRISED TO FIND OUT I WAS AT 10000 FT INSTEAD OF 11000 FT. NOW, 10000 FT IS THE NORMAL ALT THAT WE ARE HANDED OVER TO APCH CTL AND I THINK THAT CTR MAY HAVE MADE A MISTAKE AND GAVE US THAT OUT OF HABIT. THAT DAY, THINGS WERE IRREGULAR BECAUSE OF WX. WE WERE BEING VECTORED AND OUR NORMAL ARR WAS NOT IN USE.
