Narrative:
While descending on an approach into ewr, we were given a crossing restr. While attempting to make the flight restr, the autoplt/FMS allowed the aircraft to exceed its maximum limit of 350 KIAS. Maximum airspeed achieved was approximately 358 KIAS. The captain (also the PF) disconnected the autoplt and reduced the descent rate. The aircraft then decelerated to an appropriate airspeed. Total time airspeed was +350 KIAS was approximately 10 seconds.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: AN AIRBUS IN DSCNT AT 12000 FT, FMS AND AUTOPLT ALLOWED ACFT TO EXCEED STRUCTURAL LIMIT AIRSPD BY 8 KTS.
Narrative: WHILE DSNDING ON AN APCH INTO EWR, WE WERE GIVEN A XING RESTR. WHILE ATTEMPTING TO MAKE THE FLT RESTR, THE AUTOPLT/FMS ALLOWED THE ACFT TO EXCEED ITS MAX LIMIT OF 350 KIAS. MAX AIRSPD ACHIEVED WAS APPROX 358 KIAS. THE CAPT (ALSO THE PF) DISCONNECTED THE AUTOPLT AND REDUCED THE DSCNT RATE. THE ACFT THEN DECELERATED TO AN APPROPRIATE AIRSPD. TOTAL TIME AIRSPD WAS +350 KIAS WAS APPROX 10 SECONDS.
