Narrative:
ZOB gave us (aircraft X) a route change on our way to atl, but ZID was unaware of the change. Our dispatcher sent us an ACARS message from ZOB that 'the ZOB controller missed an ATC computer rejection of his change, so ZID assumed we were still on our original flight plan.' our new flight plan displaced us less than 100 mi from the old, and resulted in an FMS fuel savings of 600 pounds. It all worked out ok.
