Narrative:
Aircraft came in with recurrence of malfunction that had delayed it out of las -- a popped navigation light circuit breaker. Autoplt was also on maintenance carry-over. Scheduled to fly cvg-syr. Since popped circuit breaker was a no-go item and we were faced with extension of scheduled 10+30 duty day, a minimum rest, followed by a 2 hour 25 min block flight to atl next morning possibly on same aircraft, requested and then refused aircraft unless autoplt would be troubleshot/fixed. Maintenance found charred wires near one navigation light bulb and a bad control head on autoplt. Both repaired and flight left 2 hours 30 mins late mostly due to decision by maintenance control to pull mechanics fixing our aircraft until after all other aircraft had pushed.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: A B727 RPTS LACK OF ADEQUATE MAINT ON NO-GO ITEMS AND SYS AFFECTING CREW WITH LONG DUTY HRS.
Narrative: ACFT CAME IN WITH RECURRENCE OF MALFUNCTION THAT HAD DELAYED IT OUT OF LAS -- A POPPED NAV LIGHT CIRCUIT BREAKER. AUTOPLT WAS ALSO ON MAINT CARRY-OVER. SCHEDULED TO FLY CVG-SYR. SINCE POPPED CIRCUIT BREAKER WAS A NO-GO ITEM AND WE WERE FACED WITH EXTENSION OF SCHEDULED 10+30 DUTY DAY, A MINIMUM REST, FOLLOWED BY A 2 HR 25 MIN BLOCK FLT TO ATL NEXT MORNING POSSIBLY ON SAME ACFT, REQUESTED AND THEN REFUSED ACFT UNLESS AUTOPLT WOULD BE TROUBLESHOT/FIXED. MAINT FOUND CHARRED WIRES NEAR ONE NAV LIGHT BULB AND A BAD CTL HEAD ON AUTOPLT. BOTH REPAIRED AND FLT LEFT 2 HRS 30 MINS LATE MOSTLY DUE TO DECISION BY MAINT CTL TO PULL MECHS FIXING OUR ACFT UNTIL AFTER ALL OTHER ACFT HAD PUSHED.
