Narrative:

We were on the tandy 3 arrival for sna. Socal approach had given us a heading of 030 degrees and a descent to 5000 ft MSL just before sxc. We were doing 250 KIAS. Just before crossing the shoreline, our new controller asked us our speed. We truthfully responded 250 KTS. He then reminded us we were under the TCA and to slow to 200 KTS immediately. Even though we had discussed this before departure, I still misread the chart and thought I was ok until closer to sna and below 5000 ft MSL. I guess we're going to have to keep the radar chart out and just ask when in doubt.
