Narrative:
Thud noise noted under and behind cockpit on descent into lax. Noise was researched by lax ground personnel and maintenance documented that the first 3 forward cargo containers in the forward cargo hold were not -- repeat not -- secured. These containers were loose and sliding forward and aft in the hold. I consider it a serious situation and ourselves fortunate that the hold was full to the extent that the containers did not slide to the rear of the hold. Had they done that, I am not sure what detrimental effects that would have had on our center of gravity at takeoff rotation.
