Narrative:

During climb out of cmh when passing FL180, the #2 engine compressor stalled 3 times consecutively. After leveling off at FL190 and reducing speed to 280 KTS, the condition ceased. I contacted air carrier dispatch and maintenance and a decision to return to cmh was agreed on. The descent and approach were uneventful. While taxiing in, the #2 engine failed and we performed the ECAM engine fail checklist.
