Narrative:
On this date, atl tower attempted to clear us less than 2 mins behind a tristar's takeoff. They (ATC) then proceeded to react emotionally to our request for 2 mins behind him, stating 'you will be 5 mi in trail' and provided a short lecture on this. In my opinion, this 'slam and jam' 'move the metal' regardless, pressure has been put on ATC by FAA traffic management, pressured publicly and privately by major airline management that refuses to admit the real problem, which is their scheduling at major airports in our country. Let's fact it, 2 airplanes cannot take off at the same time on the same runway -- period. I have filed several previous wake turbulence reports at atl and dfw in the last several yrs, yet ATC, under corporate pressure, continues to press it and I predict a major incident/accident at atl or dfw due to this reduction of separation and safety margins inherent in the way operations are now conducted. NASA and the NTSB must counter this growing threat with trend analysis data and common sense.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: CAPT OF A FOKKER 100 DELAYED TKOF BEHIND A DEPARTING LOCKHEED TRISTAR, L1011, TO AVOID POSSIBLE WAKE TURB.
Narrative: ON THIS DATE, ATL TWR ATTEMPTED TO CLR US LESS THAN 2 MINS BEHIND A TRISTAR'S TKOF. THEY (ATC) THEN PROCEEDED TO REACT EMOTIONALLY TO OUR REQUEST FOR 2 MINS BEHIND HIM, STATING 'YOU WILL BE 5 MI IN TRAIL' AND PROVIDED A SHORT LECTURE ON THIS. IN MY OPINION, THIS 'SLAM AND JAM' 'MOVE THE METAL' REGARDLESS, PRESSURE HAS BEEN PUT ON ATC BY FAA TFC MGMNT, PRESSURED PUBLICLY AND PRIVATELY BY MAJOR AIRLINE MGMNT THAT REFUSES TO ADMIT THE REAL PROB, WHICH IS THEIR SCHEDULING AT MAJOR ARPTS IN OUR COUNTRY. LET'S FACT IT, 2 AIRPLANES CANNOT TAKE OFF AT THE SAME TIME ON THE SAME RWY -- PERIOD. I HAVE FILED SEVERAL PREVIOUS WAKE TURB RPTS AT ATL AND DFW IN THE LAST SEVERAL YRS, YET ATC, UNDER CORPORATE PRESSURE, CONTINUES TO PRESS IT AND I PREDICT A MAJOR INCIDENT/ACCIDENT AT ATL OR DFW DUE TO THIS REDUCTION OF SEPARATION AND SAFETY MARGINS INHERENT IN THE WAY OPS ARE NOW CONDUCTED. NASA AND THE NTSB MUST COUNTER THIS GROWING THREAT WITH TREND ANALYSIS DATA AND COMMON SENSE.
