Narrative:
My copilot and I taxied out of the FBO with a falcon 20. Upon reaching the end of the taxiway of runway 17L we were cleared for an immediate takeoff on runway 17L. My copilot who was occupying the left seat proceeded with a normal takeoff. Upon reaching approximately 80 KTS, with normal callouts, my copilot released control of the tiller. The aircraft immediately made a sharp turn to the left. He immediately tried to regain control with the tiller with little success. Using the rudder and right braking, we regained control of the aircraft and proceeded with a normal takeoff, not aware of any damage to the aircraft or ground equipment. En route to mke, ZID asked us if we had made contact with any ground equipment, we said no. The ATC asked us if we had sustained any damage to the aircraft we said no. Based on the situation in sdf, we decided to divert to yip. Upon arrival to yip, we notified maintenance. Based upon what has happened, I will rethink about putting coplts' in the left seat. Supplemental information from acn 450737: the PIC wrote up the tiller, on the discrepancy log.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: FALCON 20 CREW EXPERIENCES DIFFICULTY WITH DIRECTIONAL CTL ON TKOF RESULTING IN RWY EXCURSION AND SUBSEQUENT DIVERSION TO ENRTE ARPT.
Narrative: MY COPLT AND I TAXIED OUT OF THE FBO WITH A FALCON 20. UPON REACHING THE END OF THE TXWY OF RWY 17L WE WERE CLRED FOR AN IMMEDIATE TKOF ON RWY 17L. MY COPLT WHO WAS OCCUPYING THE L SEAT PROCEEDED WITH A NORMAL TKOF. UPON REACHING APPROX 80 KTS, WITH NORMAL CALLOUTS, MY COPLT RELEASED CTL OF THE TILLER. THE ACFT IMMEDIATELY MADE A SHARP TURN TO THE L. HE IMMEDIATELY TRIED TO REGAIN CTL WITH THE TILLER WITH LITTLE SUCCESS. USING THE RUDDER AND R BRAKING, WE REGAINED CTL OF THE ACFT AND PROCEEDED WITH A NORMAL TKOF, NOT AWARE OF ANY DAMAGE TO THE ACFT OR GND EQUIP. ENRTE TO MKE, ZID ASKED US IF WE HAD MADE CONTACT WITH ANY GND EQUIP, WE SAID NO. THE ATC ASKED US IF WE HAD SUSTAINED ANY DAMAGE TO THE ACFT WE SAID NO. BASED ON THE SIT IN SDF, WE DECIDED TO DIVERT TO YIP. UPON ARR TO YIP, WE NOTIFIED MAINT. BASED UPON WHAT HAS HAPPENED, I WILL RETHINK ABOUT PUTTING COPLTS' IN THE L SEAT. SUPPLEMENTAL INFO FROM ACN 450737: THE PIC WROTE UP THE TILLER, ON THE DISCREPANCY LOG.
