Narrative:
I, as the CFI, was demonstrating a 'wheel landing' to a student who just purchased the C170. During the landing roll, control was lost and the aircraft left the grass runway, struck a rough piece of terrain, went up on nose slightly and struck the propeller and cowling. Apparent damage to propeller, cowling and wheel pants. The only correction or change that I am unsure of is it felt to me as if the left rudder stuck or my foot caught something on the side of the housing and prevented my pushing the rudder to the left. The student and I both had exchanged information and I was flying the demonstration. Looking at skid marks, I now think the student was on the brakes with me. The other thing I noticed is an angle bracket that controls the heater sticks out about 1/2 inch and maybe my foot caught that.

Title: C170 INSTRUCTOR WENT OFF RWY WHILE DEMONSTRATING A WHEEL LNDG.
Narrative: I, AS THE CFI, WAS DEMONSTRATING A 'WHEEL LNDG' TO A STUDENT WHO JUST PURCHASED THE C170. DURING THE LNDG ROLL, CTL WAS LOST AND THE ACFT LEFT THE GRASS RWY, STRUCK A ROUGH PIECE OF TERRAIN, WENT UP ON NOSE SLIGHTLY AND STRUCK THE PROP AND COWLING. APPARENT DAMAGE TO PROP, COWLING AND WHEEL PANTS. THE ONLY CORRECTION OR CHANGE THAT I AM UNSURE OF IS IT FELT TO ME AS IF THE L RUDDER STUCK OR MY FOOT CAUGHT SOMETHING ON THE SIDE OF THE HOUSING AND PREVENTED MY PUSHING THE RUDDER TO THE L. THE STUDENT AND I BOTH HAD EXCHANGED INFO AND I WAS FLYING THE DEMONSTRATION. LOOKING AT SKID MARKS, I NOW THINK THE STUDENT WAS ON THE BRAKES WITH ME. THE OTHER THING I NOTICED IS AN ANGLE BRACKET THAT CTLS THE HEATER STICKS OUT ABOUT 1/2 INCH AND MAYBE MY FOOT CAUGHT THAT.
