Narrative:

I was flying as first officer on flight xx on sep/xa/99 from bos-iad. We were in the cruise phase of flight at FL310, in what the captain and I agreed was light turbulence, at a speed of .77 mach. While the captain was making a PA announcement, one of the flight attendants called the flight deck on the intercom, which I answered, to report that a flight attendant had fallen and hit her head, and subsequently passed out. I immediately notified the captain. ATC was notified that we had a medical emergency and changed our call sign to include the term 'lifeguard.' we began to discuss the possibility of diverting to one of the new york area airports or to phl. The captain also contacted dispatch to report what had happened and to get assistance from air carrier medical. The first flight attendant called us to report that the injured flight attendant was conscious and after discussing her condition decided to continue to iad. We landed at iad and after arriving at the gate, the injured flight attendant was treated and transported by paramedics. Supplemental information from acn 450880: in cruse at FL310, light chop to occasional light turbulence speed .77 mach. First flight attendant informed us that flight attendant had hit her neck on door 2L and passed out. We notified dispatch, declared a medical emergency and requested lower. Dispatch attempted a patch to medical, but had to relay the information. First flight attendant notified us that xx was awake and on oxygen. We requested paramedics meet the flight and landed at iad.
