Narrative:
About 15 mins before departure from sju, an agent came to the cockpit and told me that 2 passenger had large pocket knives. She had them in her possession and asked me what we could do as there would be no time for them top pull bags and put them in checked baggage. I told her to see the captain. About 5 mins later, the captain came to the cockpit with the 2 knives, each wrapped in a ticket folder. He explained that we could keep them in the cockpit until we arrived in atl. This seemed reasonable to me at the time. En route we discussed the fact that we could not give the knives to the passenger as they left the plane as that would put them in a secure area before handing over the knives. As it turned out, an FAA inspector riding in one of our other planes overheard our call to the dispatcher and told the captain of that flight that he was going to file a violation against us. The captain of the other flight came to our gate after landing to inform us of this. The FAA inspector did not speak to me, or the captain I was flying with.

THE CAPT OF THE OTHER FLT CAME TO OUR GATE AFTER LNDG TO INFORM US OF THIS. THE FAA INSPECTOR DID NOT SPEAK TO ME, OR THE CAPT I WAS FLYING WITH.
