Narrative:
Wind on surface 360 degrees at 18 KTS. At 1200 ft MSL, entered IMC, climbed to 2000 ft then 3000 ft. Encountered windshear at 3000 ft, approximately 50 KTS. Change of direction approximately 90 degrees. At full power vsi read 2000 ft descending. Reported to ord approach and asked for higher due to windshear area. Given 4000 ft and 10 mins later gained 400 ft in updraft. Vsi 1800 FPM climb. Required power off to stop climb and return to assigned altitude reported to ATC situation and to FSS (stl).
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: A PA32-300 PLT LOSES CTL OF HIS ACFT FOR A SHORT TIME AND EXPERIENCES AN UNCOMMANDED CLB ABOVE HIS ASSIGNED ALT DURING A WINDSHEAR ENCOUNTER NEAR EON, IL.
Narrative: WIND ON SURFACE 360 DEGS AT 18 KTS. AT 1200 FT MSL, ENTERED IMC, CLBED TO 2000 FT THEN 3000 FT. ENCOUNTERED WINDSHEAR AT 3000 FT, APPROX 50 KTS. CHANGE OF DIRECTION APPROX 90 DEGS. AT FULL PWR VSI READ 2000 FT DSNDING. RPTED TO ORD APCH AND ASKED FOR HIGHER DUE TO WINDSHEAR AREA. GIVEN 4000 FT AND 10 MINS LATER GAINED 400 FT IN UPDRAFT. VSI 1800 FPM CLB. REQUIRED PWR OFF TO STOP CLB AND RETURN TO ASSIGNED ALT RPTED TO ATC SIT AND TO FSS (STL).
