Narrative:
20 mi from destination airport, ceiling 3000 ft, cruise 2500 ft, had to descend to 2000 ft, 15 mi out. Then 1500 ft, 10 mi out. Lost contact with the ground at 1000 ft, 5 mi from destination. Ft wayne approach control extremely helpful. Provided vectors to airport 18 mi north of ft wayne. Corrective action seems simple looking back. Should have turned back north and landed short. Ceiling dropped suddenly!
