Narrative:
We flew from grb to saw and canceled IFR. My first officer was from california and had never seen the upper peninsula before. I flew to the east of marquette city at 1500 ft AGL and, when over the water of lake superior, descended to 500 ft AGL on our radar altimeter. The WX was excellent with unrestr visibility. We saw no air traffic (visibility on our TCASII) and there was no boat traffic on the water. We flew parallel to the shoreline at 400 ft AGL for 2-3 mi, then climbed to 2500 ft and landed at saw. On oct/xa/99, a fellow pilot who is military auxiliary told me one of their boats observed my aircraft and could read the tail number with the naked eye. He said they reported me to the FAA for buzzing. We never saw this boat, but felt obligated to report same. My flight was part 91 and, to the best of my knowledge, no FARS were violated.

Title: A COMMUTER CAPT FLEW 400-500 FT AGL OVER LAKE SUPERIOR BEFORE LNDG AT SAW. HE UNKNOWINGLY FLEW WITHIN CLOSE PROX TO A MIL BOAT AND WAS SUBSEQUENTLY TURNED IN TO THE FAA.
Narrative: WE FLEW FROM GRB TO SAW AND CANCELED IFR. MY FO WAS FROM CALIFORNIA AND HAD NEVER SEEN THE UPPER PENINSULA BEFORE. I FLEW TO THE E OF MARQUETTE CITY AT 1500 FT AGL AND, WHEN OVER THE WATER OF LAKE SUPERIOR, DSNDED TO 500 FT AGL ON OUR RADAR ALTIMETER. THE WX WAS EXCELLENT WITH UNRESTR VISIBILITY. WE SAW NO AIR TFC (VISIBILITY ON OUR TCASII) AND THERE WAS NO BOAT TFC ON THE WATER. WE FLEW PARALLEL TO THE SHORELINE AT 400 FT AGL FOR 2-3 MI, THEN CLBED TO 2500 FT AND LANDED AT SAW.
