Narrative:
The tower controller became upset at my acknowledgement of traffic close to me and began to vector me back and forth outside of class B airspace to the ground. This has never happened before and the controller even gave me vectors of objects instead of headings, to my landing site, 3 mi from the tower. He was playing a game with me and knew I was upset and told me to call him in the tower. I did. He basically wanted to argue. I called his supervisor and was told that they were very busy and apologized for the delay getting to my landing pad. Not more than 15 mins later, the same controller was still upset at me and baited me into our routine approach to our msy base, clearing me direct to our facility on the airfield. He said nothing else to me until I was finishing my approach. Then he cleared me to taxi to parking and said, 'by the way, I only cleared you to come over to your base, not to land' and that I had violated the FARS. I have to admit, I did intend to land and would have without his comments. I feel that he intentionally used nonstandard phraseology with me, wanting me to land without him saying the words. As a part 135 air carrier operating there daily, I've never had this happen before, and I've never heard the tower play these games with larger part 121 operators.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: A BELL HELI ATX PLT IS 'BAITED' INTO LNDG WITHOUT CLRNC AT MSY, LA.
Narrative: THE TWR CTLR BECAME UPSET AT MY ACKNOWLEDGEMENT OF TFC CLOSE TO ME AND BEGAN TO VECTOR ME BACK AND FORTH OUTSIDE OF CLASS B AIRSPACE TO THE GND. THIS HAS NEVER HAPPENED BEFORE AND THE CTLR EVEN GAVE ME VECTORS OF OBJECTS INSTEAD OF HDGS, TO MY LNDG SITE, 3 MI FROM THE TWR. HE WAS PLAYING A GAME WITH ME AND KNEW I WAS UPSET AND TOLD ME TO CALL HIM IN THE TWR. I DID. HE BASICALLY WANTED TO ARGUE. I CALLED HIS SUPVR AND WAS TOLD THAT THEY WERE VERY BUSY AND APOLOGIZED FOR THE DELAY GETTING TO MY LNDG PAD. NOT MORE THAN 15 MINS LATER, THE SAME CTLR WAS STILL UPSET AT ME AND BAITED ME INTO OUR ROUTINE APCH TO OUR MSY BASE, CLRING ME DIRECT TO OUR FACILITY ON THE AIRFIELD. HE SAID NOTHING ELSE TO ME UNTIL I WAS FINISHING MY APCH. THEN HE CLRED ME TO TAXI TO PARKING AND SAID, 'BY THE WAY, I ONLY CLRED YOU TO COME OVER TO YOUR BASE, NOT TO LAND' AND THAT I HAD VIOLATED THE FARS. I HAVE TO ADMIT, I DID INTEND TO LAND AND WOULD HAVE WITHOUT HIS COMMENTS. I FEEL THAT HE INTENTIONALLY USED NONSTANDARD PHRASEOLOGY WITH ME, WANTING ME TO LAND WITHOUT HIM SAYING THE WORDS. AS A PART 135 ACR OPERATING THERE DAILY, I'VE NEVER HAD THIS HAPPEN BEFORE, AND I'VE NEVER HEARD THE TWR PLAY THESE GAMES WITH LARGER PART 121 OPERATORS.
